Post Date: 01/16/2024 Reports To: Pharmacy Manager Position type: Part Time or PRN Position Summary: Working under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacy manager and pharmacist by filling physician orders for medications for oral, rectal, topical and injectable use; types labels, prepares and files charge slips and performs other related duties as directed.

Functions in an organized manner and plans work assignments to effectively use time.
25.
Attends all mandatory training and educational programs to maintain necessary competency including but not limited to licensure and/or certification.

Keeps unscheduled absences (sick leave and emergencies) to a minimum and always verifies need.

Is willing to work beyond normal schedule when necessary.
28.
Maintains an overall neat and clean appearance.
Selects conservative dress styles reflective of the job while adhering to the dress guidelines established by the department.
29.
Responds objectively and positively to changes occurring in the hospital and health care.
30.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as necessary or as directed by the supervisor or Hospital Administrator.
Position Specific Responsibilities: 1.
Assists the pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel.
2.
Assists the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to elderly.
Must be able to identify and understand there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and knows to consult with the pharmacist if any doubles or questions arise.
3.
Assists in the distribution of medications to patient trays and floor stocks.
4.
Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filing various prescriptions ranging from the newborn to the elderly.
5.
Recognizes inappropriate dosing based in available dosage forms for various age groups.
6.
Processes records of medications and supplies distributed to patients, computes charges and either enters them into the computer for billing purposes.
7.
Prepares selected reports.
8.
Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly.
9.
Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies.
10.
Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and QA activities.
11.
Maintains the department in a clean and orderly manner.
12.
Performs other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required.
Position Qualifications: 1.
A high school diploma (or equivalency) is required.
College/trade school degree or equivalent experience preferred.
2.
Certification from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or an equivalent certification board is required.
Current Texas State Board of Pharmacy registration is required.
3.
One or more years experience in related field preferred.
4.
Must possess typing skills and general computer experience.
5.
Must have mathematical ability and be able to think and reason logically.
6.
Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Physical Requirements: 1.
Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
2.
Must possess sight/hearing/touch senses or the use of prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be met.
3.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
4.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
5.
May be constantly required to push/pull, lift light objects less than 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: 1.
Works in well lighted/ventilated areas.
2.
May sit or stand for long periods.
3.
Must be able to stoop, bend, lift and move intermittently during work hours.
4.
Subject to frequent interruptions.
5.
May be subjected to infectious diseases, substances, contaminated articles, etc
