Position Overview
Position Summary
The College of Fine Arts is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Instructor in Technical Theatre and Design position beginning August 2024.
This role includes serving as Technical Director, Production Designer, Shop Manager, and undergraduate instructor for the University Theatre Center.
This is a residential appointment with campus presence required.
Requirements Duties and Responsibilities: Technical Direction and Design for all productions (four per academic year) Management and Safety of the University Theatre Center shops (scenic and costume) and venues (400-seat proscenium and 150-seat black box) Supervise and mentor student stage management, crew, technicians, and designers for productions as well as student work crews in the shops.
Teaching one course (3 credit hours) in technical theatre and design, and/or other courses based on departmental needs and ¾ teaching release for TD/Design duties per semester Other duties as assigned which include but are not limited to departmental meetings, development of curriculum, and program assessment.
Minimum Job Requirements: Master’s degree required.
Additional consideration will be given to work experience as well as formal education Must possess the interpersonal and organizational skills to coordinate with colleagues and students to accomplish production design and construction within designated production schedules and budgets.
Must interact with students with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds to mentor their development in technical theatre in and outside the classroom Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The successful applicant will possess expertise in: All aspects of stagecraft and theatrical design Lighting, theatrical fly systems (weighted and electrical) Set design and construction Desired: Costume Design and building experience.
Sound design Projection Design Working Conditions Physical Demand and Working Conditions: Work will occasionally require climbing, crawling, and other physical exertion consistent with lighting and rigging within a theatrical venue and will at times require exerting up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Work is performed in a non-smoking facility Must be willing to work a flexible schedule which may require evening and weekend hours Additional Information Additional Information Date Available: Open Until Filled Condition of Employment: Must pass a pre-employment background check.
