Position Overview
Position Summary:
Under immediate supervision and direction, custodians perform custodial work for the general maintenance of university buildings and related work as required.
Requirements Duties and Responsibilities: Perform cleaning in all areas of a building and floor areas such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and buffing Clean bathrooms and refill supplies Collect trash from receptacles and empty into designated areas Lock and unlock doors as required Clean porches, entrances and windows of buildings Clean, store and perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment Serve as on-call personnel to assist in emergency clean up Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Job Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Valid driver’s license.
No previous work experience is necessary.
Must have the ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to follow simple oral and written directions Ability to observe and use safe working conditions Ability to use and care for janitorial supplies, chemicals and equipment Ability to use a ladder Ability to lift and carry equipment and furniture of moderate weights regularly Ability to operate a buffer, small tools and related equipment Working Conditions Physical Demand and Working Conditions: Work is performed predominantly inside with some outside work Work involves exposure to hazardous conditions with fumes, odors, and toxic situations Employee may be exposed to blood borne pathogens Work is medium in nature that at times requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave.
Leave accruals will be pro-rated for part time employees.

Employee Educational Assistance Plan Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees.
This program waives the tuition for one course (up to four credit hours) per semester.
Employees' spouses may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
