Position Overview
Position Summary
The Roosevelt County Historical Museum (RCHM) is located on and operated by Eastern New Mexico University and houses a defined and discreet collection of antiques, artifacts, and related archives.
Under limited direction, the Roosevelt County Historical Museum Manager oversees and coordinates museum operations and performs or oversees all curatorial activities related to the collection, exhibitions, and related programs.
The Museum Manager is responsible for effective administration, management, and operation of the Roosevelt County Historical Museum.
Requirements Duties and Responsibilities: Manage the museum’s collection, following accepted professional standards, policies, procedures, maintenance, conservation, cataloging, and records management.
Oversee the daily operations of the museum, including visitor services, programs, housekeeping, building safety and security.
Manage the physical facility to provide a clean, safe, and welcoming atmosphere.
Conduct daily inspections of the museum in order to ensure it is equipped and ready for daily opening.
Manage, train, and coordinate scheduling of museum student employees, interns and volunteers.
Ensure high levels of visitor satisfaction.
Collect in person and digital visitor data through evaluations, demographics, or other methods, and use as a tool to enhance visitor experiences.
Report and track management indicators such as visitation and program numbers.
Seek grants, donations and other alternate funding sources to support existing and new collections and programs.
Act as a liaison and maintain a positive relationship with the Portales Chamber of Commerce, local galleries and museums, local schools, historical societies and other appropriate organizations.
Oversee and conduct exhibit and collection curation, preservation, and management.
Manage photographic and document archives, maintain museum digital inventory using PastPerfect.
Coordinate and provide visitor and education services including tours, workshops and other events or programs.
Develop the museum’s operating budget under the direction of the Golden Library Director; meet or exceed budget targets.
Track, analyze, and report on the financial status of the museum.
Model excellent customer service, including proactive greeting and interaction with visitors to direct them towards exhibits and amenities, and to provide membership information.
Oversee and coordinate the museum's display design, development, or modification.
Coordinate marketing and promotion of museum exhibits and programs in the community, including social media.
Review and remain current regarding professional and technical literature in curation and museum studies, including development in collection management best practices, and historical research; participate in professional and community organizations.
Serve on department and university committees and working groups.
Contribute to Golden Library initiatives that further ENMU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements Master’s degree in museum studies, public history, history, library/archival studies or related discipline Minimum one year of collection curation experience and database management/collection curation software (preferably PastPerfect) Valid New Mexico Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment Experience creating public displays of information using physical, video, and digital tools Experience in creating/managing programs, including, but not limited to educational and outreach activities, exhibitions, and online initiatives Understanding of museum and archival cataloging/collection database methods and best practices Proficiency with Office 360, Adobe Creative Cloud and digitization technologies Preferred Knowledge of New Mexico or Southwest history Grant writing experience Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated technology and computer skills, including Office 360, Adobe Creative Cloud, and digital scanning technologies.

Working Conditions Physical Demand and Working Conditions: Work is moderately active in nature that at times requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a moderate amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Some evening and/or weekend work is required.
Standing for long periods may be required on an occasional basis.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
