Job Summary Provide direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family; provide care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Maintain regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures, and standards.
Answer phone calls incoming to the clinic by patients and send each provider/MA/Nurse messages via electronic medical record about patients’ needs or concerns.
To return calls to patients with the answer to concerns/questions/request per direction for provider.
Communicate with physicians and team members about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.
Must be able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment and able to perform general medical assistant duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
To provide safe, courteous and competent patient care.
Essential Functions Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization Performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of an RN or LPN.
Monitors and operates patient care equipment.
Performs specialized technical patient care procedures.
Maintains a clean and safe environment.
Communicates with patients and members of the nursing team to relay appropriate information and provide effective patient care.
Reinforces patient and family teaching.
Participates in the orientation of staff to the unit and precepts nursing technicians on the unit.
Maintains hospital and unit specific competencies.
Maintains BLS certification.
As part of a patient focused service, promotes a supportive and healing environment to enhance patient and staff satisfaction.
Assists in emergency situations as directed by an RN or LPN.
Ensures that prescribed measures related to hygiene, comfort and rest are provided.
Complies with Standard Precautions guidelines and all other Infection Control procedures and safety standards to maintain and promote a clean and healthy work environment.
Assists in the use of bedside blood glucose machines, bag-valve-mask devices, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, and incentive spirometer.
Operates converter chairs, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive BP monitors, automatic thermometers, sphygmomanometers, pulse oximeters, and computers.
Performs vital signs and measures patient intake and output, records information.
Records blood glucose results.
Reports observations and unusual information regarding patients to RN/LPN.
Maintains, observes, and performs site care of common drainage tubes and devices.
Observes color, consistency, amount, and odor from drainage tube.
Assists RN/LPN in providing patient care according to individual needs by observing IV site appearance, discontinuing peripheral INTs, performing simple wound care, assisting with range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet/feeding, elimination, hygiene, performing pre-and -post-operative procedural care, discontinuing foley catheters, assisting with respiratory functions/procedures, and assisting with special procedures at the bedside.
Participates in shift report.
Prepares room to receive patient by setting up equipment and ensuring neatness and cleanliness of room.
Transports and collects patient specimens throughout hospital, and contributes to the completion of admission, discharge, transfer, and postmortem care.
Utilizes appropriate technology to complete processes.
Participates in unit-based and system-wide Performance Improvement Program.
Supports cost efficient/effective delivery of care.
Serves as a resource/model through compliance with standards of care and with Department of Nursing and Hospital policies and procedures.
May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
Assist with A-1 administrations as needed.
Assist with maintaining daily staffing and adjusting as necessary .
Non-Essential Functions Perform other duties as assigned Professional Requirements Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
Complete annual education requirements.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Report to work on time and as scheduled.
Wear identification while on duty.
Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the organization.
Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
Attend regular staff meetings and in-services.
Maintain yearly competencies Maintain BLS Certification Maintain NMSIIS and CHILe’S Certifications Qualification Minimum of LPN or EMT-I required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days from hire Medical terminology preferred At least 2 years of Medical Assistant experience required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of medical assisting duties Strong organizational and interpersonal skills Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing/electronically Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions Working irregular hours Physically demanding, high-stress environment Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions Pushing and pulling heavy objects Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients.
Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
